Key Projects is pleased to present Color Affinities, a group exhibition featuring the work of Jodie Manasevit, Mary Bucci McCoy and Yoella Razili, on view from October 27 through November 11, 2018. Opening reception on Saturday, October 27th from 2 - 4 pm. Key Projects is open Saturdays and Sundays from 1 – 5 pm and by appointment during the run of the show.

Color as you experience it - working from memory or imagination, the three abstract painters in Color Affinities are grounded in their experience, in their everyday encounters, in nature, in architecture and in their perception of color. Each explores an individual color sensibility, with close awareness to material and surface.

Jodie Manasevit’s paintings present predominant fields of color, favoring oranges and greens, with concentrated clusters of radiant mark-making. Using both brush and palette knife, Manasevit develops color relationships and textures that are both tense and calm, subtle and luminous.

Mary Bucci McCoy employs an alchemist’s intrigue to her painting process that is influenced by her background in ceramics. As in the firing of ceramic glazes, the element of chance plays a role here as she often combines fluid acrylic and iridescent acrylic paints to achieve her alchemy. One can feel time passing in Bucci McCoy’s spare, elegant paintings that are graced by intermittent color, large areas of white and distinctive mark-making.

Like a forager, Yoella Razili roams the city streets in search of discarded material – wooden base boards, frames and the like - materials with histories that resonate. Razili builds structures from the debris and paints the surfaces in a single hue that interacts with the frame, walls and light. Slight traces of the past are still evident in the found materials, allowing untold stories to be imagined. 

About the artists:

Jodie Manasevit lives and works in Brooklyn, NY. She received her MFA from Hunter College, New York. She has taught at Northeastern University since 1998. Her work has been featured in solo exhibitions at Berry Campbell Gallery, New York, the Worcester Art Museum, Massachusetts, Roger Williams University, Bristol, Rhode Island, and the Jersey City Museum, New Jersey. She has also been included in numerous group exhibitions throughout the Northeast.

Mary Bucci McCoy is a painter who lives and works on the North Shore of Massachusetts. She has exhibited her work throughout the United States as well as in Germany. Recent exhibitions include solo shows at Gray Contemporary in Houston, TX, CG2 Gallery in Nashville, TN and Kingston Gallery in Boston, MA as well as group shows at Gray Contemporary, The Curator Gallery in New York, Divisible in Dayton, OH, and Boeckercontemporary in Heidelberg, Germany. She is a 2012 Massachusetts Cultural Council Painting Fellow. Mary earned a BFA with a focus on ceramic sculpture and a BA in English through the Tufts University/School of the Museum of Fine Arts dual-degree program, and has also studied ceramic sculpture at l'Ecole des Arts Decoratifs in Geneva, Switzerland (now Haute École d’Art et de Design Genève).

Yoella Razili is an Israeli born artist who lives and works in Los Angeles. Razili grew up in Kibbutz Kfar Blum in the upper Galilee, Israel. She served in the Israeli army and thereafter graduated from Oranim Art Institute in Israel. Yoella received her Master degree in fine art from Otis Art Institute in 1981. Since then she has exhibited internationally in the USA, Israel, Korea, Germany, France and Italy. Her recent exhibitions include: Biennale International d’art Non Objectif #3, Pont De Claix, France; Latitude 34-40, Art1307, Villa Di Donato, Naples, Italy; Group show, Gray Contemporary, Houston, TX; Materials and Methods, LA Artcore, Los Angeles, CA; Destill: A survey of contemporary art, Track One, Nashville, TN and Introductions 2018, Trestle Gallery, Brooklyn, NY.
